Oh boy was I wrong. Not only did the Tribe put up 700 +(like I was 'feeling') they failed to win the match-up. Pushing me to 1-1 on my GOTW 'calls'. More importantly, the loss extended the Tribe's loss streak to 5. If the season were to end right now, the Tribe would still be in the play-offs, but by the hands of a tie-breaker. They were at one point 8-3, and a virtual lock for the play-offs. A few injuries, and bad breaks later, they sit at 8-8. Still in the play-offs....for now.
On the other hand, the Red Sox continued their hot-streak. I guess this is the tale of two completely different stories, as both teams are on totally different streaks. The Sox extended their streak to 4 straight, however, are not in the play-offs in the moment. The Tribe hold the tie-breaker over them for the 2nd, and final wild card spot in the American League. They will need to continue to win in order to get in the play-offs, as they can't take the Tribe's slide for granted.
The final score of the match-up was 664.5-544 in favor of the Red pair of Sox. Kind of ironic this week, as former Indian, Victor Martinez was traded to the Red Sox(in real life) at the trade deadline. But, despite Victor's good week, it wasn't enough. Only two of the Tribe's bats totalled over 30 points in the week; Shin-Soo(chugga chugga) Choo (Choo!), and Victor Martinez.. Though Derosa(28), and Blake(29.5) gave solid efforts. The pitchers really let down the Tribe this week. They had many 2-start pitchers, but none pitched particularly well. Well, besides Brian Bannister(52.5 points), and Colin Balester(41). Countering their efforts, however, were poor outings from Chris Sampson(-13.5), Michael Wuertz(-5.5). The Relievers did some relieving....relieving the Tribe of some points.
The Sox, had a solid week, solid from up and down the lineup, as well as the rotation and bull-pen. Josh Beckett was filthy(71.5 points), Matt Cain was brilliant in his start(33 points, though it could have easily of been 65). The bullpen came up large, as Soria put up 42, Daniel Bard registered 31, and Leo Nunez put up 31.5 in his relief efforts. The lineup was really great. As a whole unit putting up 404.5 points. Lead by Kendry Morales with 71.5(no, that was not a typo). Jacoby Ellsbury(64.5), and Youuuuuuukilis(59).
All in all, everything clicked for the Sawx, whereas things kept not clicking for the Tribe. Sox proved me wrong, and Indians let me down. It was a good match-up though, and it effected the play-offs a ton.
These guys could meet in the play-offs very soon. Looking forward to it.
