In this blog, we will depict the American League West. The West is highlighted by the best team in the league, the champs, the Tampa Bay Rays. There is no more doubt as to who is the top team, it is clearly the Rays.
They stand with an 11-3 record, and average 617 points per week. Jeez, that is a good week for most teams. But, for the Rays' owner Justin Gooding, it's just another day in the life. Justin won the championship last year, and was certainly a top 2 team then. But, since the Cubs have fallen a bit, he has taken the top spot, and ran with it. He has put together a team that is led by the likes of: Miguel Cabrera, Curtis Granderson, and Justin Verlander. Yes, he is a Tigers fan. I think I'd be insane to not predict this team to run away with the division, but it's not insane to say 'run away with it; the 2nd place team, the Cleveland Indians, have a nice team as well.
The Tribe, and it's Chief, Mike McGhee have won 8 of their frst 14 contests. Amongst the Indians are Americans like Brian Roberts, Chone Figgins, Brandon Inge, CC Sabathia, and Cliff Lee that put up some biggggg numbers. If there is a team in this division that will challenge the Rays for the title, it's the Tribe.
In third place are the Tigers, who seem to be missing a lot of Tigers(Justin, do you know anything about that?), but nonetheless, have a solid team. Headlined by stars like Zack Greinke, Krod, and Adam Lind the Tigers, and skipper Jerry Czz(how do you spell it?!) Czzowitz(there we go!) have registered a 5-9 record. That record could certainly be better if Jerry was at the reigns all season, though a certain some body's friend(who, you? No, not me) sort of misjudged a few pitchers, like Jason Marquis, and benched them when they had stellar outings. Probably costing them a W or two here and there. But, that's all over and done with, and Jerry is looking to get this team back to the top.
Down in the bottom of this division are the Minnesota Twins. The Twinkies looked like a promising team this year, but then stars like Carlos Quentin had some foot problems, and Edinson Volquez had a sore shoulder. Owner, Mike Durand, is looking to get some of those big guys back, and maybe add an arm or two, and when that happens, Minnesota will show the world what they are made of. Though, I think it's safe to say they won't be winning any division titles while they are still playing in the Metro dome. They'll have to wait until they get outside in their new stadium in '09.
In a nutshell, this division seems to be in the bag for mastermind Justin Gooding. Though, Mike McGhee and his troops will attempt to dethrone him, but, if the fail they will land in a wild card spot, most likely. As for the Tigers, if they put together a good run, and I hear they did put together a big run at the end of last year, they will be in contention for a wild card spot. It's not very likely, as they are currently on a 3 game skid, but the chance is there.

Yankees and Red Sox have a chance to catch the Indians for the 3 seed starting next week with interconference play. A little help from the Mariners would go a long way. Rays aren't missing the playoffs. But, maybe I can catch him for the #1 seed. Unlikely.

Would not surprise me at all if you caught and/or passed me.

I think ultimately it's going to come down to the Yanks and Sox for the final playoff spot. The Indians have hit a wall, but I think they're good enough to overcome it.

I think I meant intraconference... or interdivision...not interconference.

AuthorYou all know me, Phil Urban, owner of the Marlins in the MLB league. As well as the Eagles in both NFL leagues. I'm the youngest of the group, and perhaps the only one unable to go buy a beer at the bar. But, that doesn't stop me from whoopin' you all in fantasy ;). Archives
