I didn't join the MLB Dynasty League until the off-season, after the first year. Some little kid, yes I can say kid cause he was younger than me, owned the team. Saying he did a horrible job is giving him too much credit. He had key pieces like Hanley Ramirez, Tim Lincecum, Chase Utley, etc and he only managed to win 3 games. Well, I shouldn't say 'managed' as it seems he didn't do much of, or any managing. He also, like a pure fool, traded the 24 year old(at the time) Hanley Ramirez. That probably isn't the smartest thing to do in a Dynasty League like this. He got decent value in return; Jimmy Rollins, Vladimir Guerrero, and Casey Kotchman. Which I guess you can say gave him pretty good depth. But still, it's Hanley Ramirez.
Anyway, enough about him. I inherited the team from his reigns on (roughly)October 1st, 2008. To be honest with you, I thought the league wouldn't last too long. Not to say it was a joke or anything, but it seemed too complicated for Fantasy Baseball. But, I joined anyway. (And actually, I saw the post on the boards, and it said the Marlins were open in a Dynasty League, so I was like heck, I'll get Hanley Ramirez, I am so taking the team. Soon enough I found out Hanley wasn't there...) The first few months were great, it was the off-season but these guys wanted to trade trade trade. I would get about 5-10 emails a day about trades, it was cool. Everything was done the right way, and they were always good offers. It was something I looked forward to, seeing 2 emails from Rich each day, a couple from Aaron, and always a few from the Yanks.
Needless to say, my opinion on the league changed rather quickly. I have since learned Jeremy has everything covered; prospects, prospect rosters, trophies, etc etc etc. They have everything under control, and it only gets better with each passing day. I could honestly see this league going for a good 10 + years. I think that would be really cool, especially if it were the same 16(17, including Brandon's co-owner Jesus ;)) of us from here on out.
So, here's to 10 + years of Fantasy with you gentlemen!
Thanks for reading the horrible blog, and keep an eye out for more...

Nice read Phil. I didn't expect the league to turn into what it has but it's pretty easy for the league to keep getting better with the great owners we have.

AuthorYou all know me, Phil Urban, owner of the Marlins in the MLB league. As well as the Eagles in both NFL leagues. I'm the youngest of the group, and perhaps the only one unable to go buy a beer at the bar. But, that doesn't stop me from whoopin' you all in fantasy ;). Archives
